Nutrition

As I begin this blog, Silver Threads, in January 2019, I am several weeks into a cleanse/detox. My foods and supplements of choice are from Arbonne. I learned about Arbonne five years ago when one of my daughters became a consultant, and, of course, I wanted to support her decision. I began using the skin care products and have been truly satisfied with them. I later became aware of the nutrition part of the company and have been using them ever since. Arbonne is everything good for my body…vegan, dairy and gluten free, and packed with nutrients.

When I retired last year, I struggled with my weight…likely as I adjusted to a less structured schedule. Within six months of retirement I had gained ten pounds, and was even further away from my optimal weight. I’m excited to say that three weeks into the cleanse I’ve dropped seven pounds and feel terrific.

Arbonne protein shakes (vanilla, chocolate, and new marble cake), detox tea, protein bars, greens balance, digestion plus, and the amazing flavored fizz sticks.

Activity

Aging is really eye-opening! Slowing down and losing strength and stamina are more noticeable with each passing year. Around ten years ago I was encouraged to try running, as some of my children had been involved in cross country and track. My interest was piqued, and I started a journey to run a 5K. I was super excited to finally reach that goal and have since run in more than 20 races. It has been really ego-boosting to place in the top three finishers in my age bracket on multiple occasions. I love continuing to challenge myself and have already signed up for my first 2019 5K. My dear sister is trying to persuade me to run in a half marathon (13.1 miles) with her; she claims that a run-walk-run-walk regimen is doable and even fun. That remains to be seen.

Another fun activity I’m currently crazy about is line dancing. A few of my lovely friends and I meet once a week to join in a beginner class. After about four months I’m ready to start pushing myself and have begun observing and gradually joining in with the advanced beginners. This is a great activity for seniors as it is mild, low impact aerobics, and learning the new steps and memorizing the order is a good way to keep the mind sharp. Yee haw!!
